Hardwood surfaces look stunning when they are in fine condition. Sadly, family living infrequently gets in the way of that gorgeous floor. Stains occur, youngsters spill something and it does not get wiped up or an ice maker waterline comes loose and you finish up with water on your floor for ages. Once you seem to have a stain on your hardwood surface, you reputedly have only a few options.
You can try covering it with an area rug or moving a bit of furniture over it, but in several cases refinishing appears like the sole choice. But prior to going to the difficulty and cost of getting your floors refinished, you might possibly be able to remove that stain from your hardwood. Here is how you can do it.
Step One: Appraise the disposition of your floor. If your hardwood surface is pretty new and is sealed well, the stain could be only on the surface and has not reached the wood. In this example, chemical removal should work. If your hardwood surfaces are older and the seal has worn off or down, you may have to strip and sand the floors for stain removal, and then refinish and seal them.
Step Two: Define the character of the stain. Select a cleaning product that works best with the stain on the hardwood. If the stain was due to alcohol, candy or other non-greasy foods, fruit, ink, lipstick, nail polisher, shoe polish, mix one or two drops of a mild dish detergent into a bucket of warm water. Rub the stain with a soft material wet with the solution.
Step Three: Use cold water or cold water blended with a little ammonia, to remove stains due to blood, grease or iodine. Rub the stain with a soft material dampened with the cold water or the ammonia and water mix. If this doesn't take away the stain, saturate the material, spread it out on top of the stain and let it sit till the stain disappears.
Step Four: Eliminate urine stains on hardwood flooring. Scrub with a fabric wet dunked in hot water and some cleaning powder if the stain is fresh. If the urine stain is old, mix up liquid bleach in with your hot water. Use one part bleach to 10 parts of hot water. Wash the area with clear bleach after the marks are removed.
